At Long's Discount Carpet, our goal is to assist you in selecting a carpet style that will perform, but allow you to buy at discount carpet prices. Since we are a national carpet wholesaler, our business is not based on walk-in traffic by consumers. We do not expend valuable financial resources. for advertising, to entice consumers into our showroom. The consumer typically pays for advertising by a local retailer in the form of higher carpet prices. For the most part for many local carpet retailers, the first 21-22% of mark-up go toward paying overhead expenses which includes advertising and promotion expenses. Another 22-25% of the initial mark-up go to salesperson commissions. The remaining mark-up is generally retained by the owner of the local carpet retail business. Long's Discount Carpet is a family business and we utilize family members as salespeople; therefore the consumer pays no additional commission added into the purchase of their new carpet. Since the majority of our carpet sales are over the phone, we expend fewer financial resources on a pretty showroom with comfy sofas, cappuccino machines, and other expensive trappings. Unlike a local carpet retailer, the majority of our office space has been reserved for "office space", rather than a large carpet showroom. We don't purchase $800 3ft by 4ft carpet samples that take up a great deal of floor space, and add to the sale price of carpet. This helps us keep carpet prices low. There is no need to buy cheap carpet, when you can buy good carpet cheap.
