However, these wholesale carpet buys typically do not last long. A number of carpet retailers contact us regularly to buy these carpet specials at deeply discounted prices and these carpet retailers resell these styles at regular retail prices. Carpet IrregularsLong's Discount Carpet is a wholesale carpet outlet. While we offer substantial savings on running line carpet styles, the biggest carpet savings can be found on slight irregulars. In many cases, you must be an expert carpet inspector to find these minor flaws. Often, we have difficulty finding the true reason why these carpet styles were labeled as a carpet irregular in the first place. In other cases, your carpet installer can cut these areas out of the carpet installation and no one would ever know that the carpet was an irregular. Each time a carpet color is produced, the carpet manufacturer compares the finished color to a "standard", in which all carpet samples in the carpet retailer showrooms match. If the finished carpet color doesn't match the showroom sample color, the carpet is designated as off shade or irregular. This is where Long's Discount carpet is able to assist the carpet manufacturers. Carpet manufacturers need a source to market these off shades, since they can't sell them as first quality. Often, the shade is slightly off and only the trained eye can detect these subtle differences. Discontinued Carpet StylesThe average carpet style and color line lasts about two years. These carpet styles generally start (selling) with a bang, go through a mature style period, and then sales begin to slow as the carpet color line begins to tire as a result of design trend changes. A carpet manufacturer may rework the color line and launch the new carpet style under a different name or they may add a <2> after the name to distinguish the style from the original color line. Some colors may carry over to the new style name, but other colors are discontinued completely. When we find these discontinued colors, we buy as many rolls of this color as possible, because these are first quality carpet styles at deeply discounted prices. Carpet RemnantsCarpet remnants are the remaining roll balances, usually less than 9 ft. Remnants are great for small rooms, dorm rooms, runners, covering for garage areas, porches, and other areas where you would not want a wall-to-wall carpet installation. Remnants are very deeply discounted since carpet manufacturers already have made their profit from the rest of the roll. Reselling remnants can be very profitable for third-party sellers, as well. Each year we ship truckloads of carpet remnants to colleges and universities, where students sell these roll ends to other students for their dorm rooms. Many tuition payments have been made by enterprising young college students by reselling this roll ends. We purchase these remnants in blind packages, so we rarely know what we have purchased until the "rem" package arrives. We are rarely disappointed.
